Our company’s uniqueness is the result of combined professional experience among our leaders. From holiday park/resort business development to financing, acquisitions, owner relations and complete operations, we hire the best, nurture their talents, encourage big thinking and reward hard work.

While corporate history and experience is important in defining who FreeSpirit is, it is the strength of our current leadership and, more importantly, our combined individual team members that ultimately deliver on our promise of excellence. They provide motivation and inspiration at our properties across the nation and ultimately determine the long-term success of our business.

Senior Management Team

David Johnston

David Johnston holds the position of CEO for FreeSpirit and oversees the specialist areas of the corporate and legal governance. He became interested in the caravan and holiday park industry over 20 years ago when he and his other business partners purchased Maroochy River Holiday Park and 2 adjoining properties in Caloundra that have since been redeveloped into a new holiday park called Caloundra Waterfront. David holds a Bachelors Degree Business, Masters Degree in Business Administration, is a Chartered Accountant and a FAICD (Fellow of Australian Institute of Company Directors) and is a director on the FreeSpirit Board.

Yvonne Bristow

Yvonne Bristow holds the role of Chief Operations Officer (COO) at FreeSpirit. She holds a Degree in Education and taught secondary and TAFE students for 20 years majoring in Home economics, Interior design and outdoor physical education before becoming heavily involved in holiday parks as an owner/operator, overseeing the entire park operations, park design and staff management. Her experience within the industry spans 25+ years. The transition from one career path to another was easy as the 2 "worlds" had many similarities. Yvonne has furthered her formal qualifications and now holds a Diploma in Human Resource Management and Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment. Yvonne has carried her interest in education into the holiday park world and was instrumental in establishing an education, training and consultative division within FreeSpirit. Yvonne is a Board Member of FreeSpirit.

Ray Bristow

Ray Bristow has been involved in the caravan and holiday park industry for over 40 years. He has been active in the evolution of the industry across Australia running more than 17 large and very successful parks over his career. Ray brings the practical experience from a trade background to FreeSpirit and holds the positions of Director on the FreeSpirit Board and Special Advisor to FreeSpirit. Ray plays an integral role in the design, development and refurbishment projects that FreeSpirit undertakes.

Danella Mitchell

Danella Mitchell (nee Rockley) is the Senior Operations Manager for FreeSpirit and plays an integral role in overseeing the entire operations of the properties that are managed by FreeSpirit, specialising in front office, administration, IT and marketing areas. Danella brings over 18 years of hospitality, hotel and holiday park experience to her role. Danella holds a Diploma in Holiday Park and Resort Management, Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment and Certificate 3 in Office Administration. She establishes many of the operating policies and procedures used in the parks and resorts. She is one of the foundation staff members of the FreeSpirit team.

Alistair Mitchell

Alistair joined FreeSpirit early 2013 and assumed the role of Senior Operations, Safety and Project Development Manager. Alistair has a wealth of experience in construction, operations and hospitality. Alistair background is diverse - starting his working career on his family’s 5000 acre wheat property in country Victoria and after moving to Queensland worked in his family body corporate business before owning and operating his own 4.5 star high-rise apartment holiday letting business in Coolangatta. Alistair worked in the construction industry on some of Queensland’s largest building projects. His energy and enthusiasm is infectious. He understands also the complexities of working within a family structured business. He specialises in strategic planning, business development, project and operational management. Alistair's many skills allows him to work comfortably in all facets of the parks on a daily basis. He has an extensive knowledge of safe work practice and risk management procedures and has proven ability in successfully analysing an organisation's critical business requirements, identifying deficiencies and potential opportunities, and developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for enhancing competitiveness, increasing revenues and improving customer service offerings.

Dani, Kylie, Jo, Kelli, Mandie and Nikki are our systems support officers for all FreeSpirit team members and clients.
